A little about us
The Local Communities Network works to grow mission-driven communities of young men and women from the local community. Local communities give voice to the voices of the locals.
The connection between community members and community activities grows out of their special and deep connection to the community where they grew up and where they are building their future. The project was established in 2015 at the initiative of the Gandhir Foundation, the Washington Federation, the Shahaf Foundation, and Joint Israel out of the belief in local people as the natural leaders in their communities and in the development of community life as the key to stable and long-term social change.
Today, 14 communities operate throughout the country, in which members from all walks of Israeli society participate - Jews and Arabs, young people and families, religious and secular, the common denominator for all is the desire to strengthen community life and improve the quality of life in their locality. The network constitutes a professional and ideological home for the communities, and together we create a local story.
Change starts from within .
14 communities across the country, from Ramat Negev to Karmiel, with approximately 450 members, today influence broad circles. Every year, over 10,000 residents take part in dozens of projects and events in diverse fields: culture and recreation, local art, education, infrastructure, welfare, and more.
Community activities strengthen the development of local leadership, increase solidarity among residents, serve as an example of social engagement for many, and contribute greatly to the creation of solutions tailored to the needs of residents, which leads to improved quality of life and well-being for residents and positive migration among many who choose to stay and attract new residents.
In our vision, the local community movement develops into dozens of communities operating throughout the country and constituting a leading and influential factor, each community in its own place and together on the social reality of the entire country.
